Outreach
As we connect with people while demonstrating our faith through action, Jordan's Outreach is an activity of providing God's grace to any population who might not have access to these services. As a key component of Outreach, we are providing benevolent assistance at the locations where those in need are gathered; whether it be within Jordan, in our community, or around the world. Through our actions we transform lives, share God's grace, and promote hope in the name of Christ.
WE SUPPORT FAMILY PROMISE OF THE LEHIGH VALLEY
Family Promise
Jordan Lutheran is one of fifteen host congregations with Family Promise of Lehigh Valley (FPLV). FPLV is a non-emergency, 90 day shelter program for families with minor children experiencing situational homelessness. We host up to four families for eight weeks a year at Jordan. For each day that we host - families arrive to Jordan in the FPLV bus (or guests drive personal vehicles) from the Day Center, at 1346 Hamilton Blvd in Allentown. While at Jordan, we feed them dinner, provide fellowship and a warm safe place to sleep. At 6am, the guests take the bus (or personal vehicle) back to the Day Center to start their day. St Joseph the Worker is an important partner in this ministry by providing volunteers, dinners, and gift card (for food).
Our last two weeks of hosting in 2024 are Nov 3 & 10. Here is the link to SignupGenius to volunteer:

We committed to host eight weeks in 2025 - 01/05, 01/12, 02/23, 03/02, 08/03, 08/10, 11/09, & 11/16.

If you are looking for other opportunities to help with the Family Promise ministry at Jordan besides cooking, hosting dinner and sleeping over, here are some ways help is needed.
A homeschool group uses the Middle Floor most Thursdays during the school year. When we host Family Promise (8 or 9 weeks a year), this same space is used for our guests as bedrooms, two rooms for volunteers to sleep and two rooms for eating and fellowship.
We host Sunday night through Sunday morning, meaning the space must be converted every Thursday morning to be useable for the homeschool group, then converted back at the end of the day to be useable for our families. Here’s how you can help:
The next time we host (in the fall), I will reach out for help to set up the bedrooms on the Friday afternoon at 4:30pm before we host - it takes about an hour.
There are magical fairies that put toiletries items in the Family Promise box in the foyer. Personal hygiene/grooming items like perfumes, soaps, & lotions are appreciated by the guests. We occasionally need deodorants, tooth paste, & tooth brushes. We could use a couple twin blankets.
St Joseph the Worker supplies gift cards at Weis & Giant for most of the food items (outside dinners).
